There are 11 keys to hiring the right DJ . . .
Key One
Select a disc jockey service based on entertainment value, quality, flexibility, and professionalism. Like most people, you probably have a budget, however, don't decide on price alone. If someone's price is too low, there is a reason why.
Key Two
Hire a full-time professional disc jockey service. A full-time professional is committed to improving their business. It's how they make a living, and it's important to them that you are happy.
Key Three
Make sure the disc jockey service brings backup equipment and has backup DJs available. Most DJs never mention this because they don't have it! If you hire a one-person service and they get sick, then what? If a part of their equipment has a problem, do they have a spare? We do!
Key Four
Hire a disc jockey that trains their DJs to be entertainers/motivators. Anyone can stand there and play music, however, almost every crowd needs a little motivation.
Key Five
Make sure the DJ has the music you want and can provide you with a songlist. A quality DJ service will offer to provide you a list of its more popular songs to ensure it has the artists you like. This allows you and your guests the ability to make requests.
Key Six
Make sure the DJ uses only professional, commercial equipment. There is a huge difference in sound quality and reliability between commercial equipment and home stereo or low-end components. The DJ should also have a high-quality wireless microphone allowing them to be mobile, entertain, and interact with the crowd.
Key Seven
Make sure you get a written contract and give the DJ a deposit to bind the date.
Key Eight
Hire a DJ that is fully insured. Many facilities require a copy of the DJ's insurance certificate before they are allowed to bring their equipment into the building.
Key Nine
Only do business with a professional entertainment company as opposed to a one-person service. When you retain a company of professional entertainers for your special event, you have the added protection and peace of mind that in the event your scheduled disc jockey became ill or injured, another entertainer could replace them. You may not have that security with a one-person service.
Key Ten
Make sure the DJ will provide high-quality dance lights and fog/bubble machines free of charge! A high-quality light show can make a big difference in creating the right atmosphere and inspiring your guests to dance.
Key Eleven
Only Hire National Association of Mobile Entertainers Members.
